Aculeus Racing Wins Six Hours At The Glen

Aculeus Racing took home its first endurance racing Special Event trophy June 21, with a victory in the LMP2 class.

Aaron Fontaine and Rodney Roberts were behind the wheel for the race, overcoming a fair amount of adversity to bring the car home in one piece and on the top of the podium.

At the moment the “Scorpion” Dallara P217 crossed the finish line, it was without a front end, costing aerodynamic efficiency in the final stint.

The race started in the rain before drying out. Then, with two hours remaining, the skies opened and started pouring.

QUOTES

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“I knew this win was coming, I just didn’t know when it’d arrive. Our drivers are too strong, too consistent, too smart to be kept off the top spot, even in the team’s first year.”

Rodney Roberts, LMP2 Driver

“We stuck to our plan that race. We were overly patient, kept it as clean as possible and pushed when we had open track. The rain was the great equalizer.”

Aaron Fontaine, LMP2 Driver

“I had zero expectations going into this race with it being my first race ever in the LMP2. Gotta say, I’m rather happy with the result! The rain proved to be our advantage, I’m pretty sure. It helps having a teammate that’s comfortable in the rain.”
