Storming Drive Captures P6 at Sebring 12 Hour

Aculeus Racing captured P6 in the Sebring 12 Hour race on Saturday.

A massive effort from Aculeus Racing saw a P38 in class start turn into a P6 finish in the Sebring 12 Hour on Saturday, March 28.

While qualifying was a challenge, enormous consistency and brilliant instincts to stay out of significant trouble combined with raw pace secured Aculeus Racing’s first top-ten finish in an iRacing endurance special event.

Avoiding damage and incident points meant very little time was spent in the pits and no drive-through penalty was incurred as a result of incident point infractions. Each driver put in mega stints but of special note was Jack Vincent-Spall’s final run trying to chase down P5. While ultimately unsuccessful, it heaped pressure on the car in front and was a blockbuster chase over the final half hour.

This P6 marks Aculeus Racing’s highest finish in a special event and continues the rapid growth as a team. It is the third-straight top-20 finish in iRacing special events.

QUOTES

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“This was a sensational race from the team. Our strong finish in Bathurst lit the match for our squad in 2026 and this poured fuel on it. Each driver was immense and I’m so proud of the pace everyone showed. But more than anything, this was a result built on consistency and taking immaculate care of the car. I’m excited for what comes next!”

Scorpions Strong At Sonoma

Aculeus Racing scored two podiums in the PRA Sports Car Series on Saturday night and took the lead in the team championship.

A strong performance from all three of the Aculeus Racing drivers at Sonoma has us leading the team championship in the Prodigy Racing Association Saturday Night Sports Car Series.

One week after Jelle Wils secured the first podium in team history at Sebring, it was Aaron Fontaine in the Corvette Z06 GT3.R and Rodney Roberts in the LMP2 class finding their way to the podium after two consistent drives.

All three drivers led laps in their respective classes and a double podium was on the cards in the GT3 class until a competitor spun Jelle with a poorly timed challenge in the closing stages of the race.

Aculeus Racing now leads the team championship by four points and Jelle leads the GT3 championship by four points, while Rodney is second in the LMP2 championship. Aaron is seventh in the GT3 championship - Sonoma was his first race of the series.

The PRA Sports Car Series now heads to Long Beach for Round 4 on Saturday, March 21.

QUOTES

Daniel borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“This was a mega result for the team. Just one week ago, we were celebrating our first podium as a team and tonight we’ve added two more. Great drives from Aaron, Jelle, and Rodney brought us to the lead of the team championship and we’re growing in strength week to week.

The preparation for this race was top-notch as well and that’s what it’s going to take in a series this strong.”

Rodney Roberts, LMP2 Driver

“It was a great all around team effort. Our Aculeus Racing LMP2 led some laps and had a strong showing in the heat at Sonoma. Traffic and strategy got me behind coming to the final pitstop, but overall a great run for the entire team, two third place podium finishes and a 4th. Looking forward to carrying this momentum on as a team to the Streets of Long Beach!”

Aaron Fontaine, GT3 Driver

“Really strong run for us as a team. I managed to get the lead early and kept it for most of the race, but unfortunately just didn't have the pace at the end to hold off the charging field. I wish I could've held them off, but that's just how racing goes sometimes.”

Aculeus Racing Scores First Podium

Jelle Wils locks down Aculeus Racing’s first podium in the PRA Saturday Night Sports Car Series.

Aculeus Racing secured its first podium on the back of a strong drive from Jelle Wils in the Prodigy Racing Association Sports Car Series on Saturday night.

Jelle brought the Aculeus Racing Corvette home in P3 at Sebring International Raceway, putting a marker down and establishing himself in second place in the GT3 Drivers Championship. He trails Austin Dilts by only eight points.

Rodney Roberts had another strong drive, finishing in P6. His consistent finishes leave him just seven points off Andrew Yun in the lead of the LMP2 Drivers Championship and level on points with Marlowe Duncan.

The PRA Sports Car Series heads to Sonoma Raceway for Round 3 on March 14 at 9 p.m. EST.

QUOTES

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“We knew from a previous race around Sebring that Rodney and Jelle had the pace for strong results and they both showed it Saturday night. Having Jelle finish on the podium is a huge credit to him and it brings him right into the championship fight where he belongs. Rodney takes care of the LMP2 every week and that consistency is key at this stage of the season. All eyes on Sonoma!”

“Major step forward” at bathurst 12-hour

The Aculeus Racing McLaren 720S GT3 EVO races at Bathurst.

Rodney Roberts and Jack Vincent-Spall took the Aculeus Racing McLaren 720S GT3 EVO to a P14 finish in the Bathurst 12-Hour on February 21.

It is the best result in our team’s short history. We gained a stunning 22 positions.

Rodney started the race in P36 and typical early lap challenges at Bathurst saw us drop back to P42. An enormously consistent stint recovered the places lost at the start before Jack took over.

The push forward was on and both drivers turned in faultless stints for the remainder of the race, including wheel-to-wheel battles and fights for position up to the final lap of the race.

Aculeus Racing has notched two Top 20 finishes in the first two iRacing special events of 2026.

QUotes

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“I said I was excited to see what Jack and Rodney can do at Bathurst but even I wasn’t expecting this. To gain 22 positions from your starting position at this track is simply sensational. When you’re a young team, you’re looking for a spark to really announce your arrival and this was a major step forward for this team and these drivers.”

Rodney Roberts, Driver

“We had a great team comeback from my first two stints, I set us back to 42 in the running order, but our team remained focused and in the remaining 10 hours we kept moving up the board to our P14 finishing position. Big thanks to Aaron for the eye in the sky and Team Driver Jack for the amazing race!”

Jack Vincent-Spall, Driver

“When you’ve got a lot of positions to make up you’ve got to commit to passing decisively and make the opportunities instead of waiting for them, with walls everywhere that’s a thrill. After we got through the drama of the first stint and established some confidence we did everything right. It was a happy privilege to be fighting hard for position on the closing laps of a 12 hour race too. Big learning experience for me and the most fun racing I’ve had in memory.”

Aaron Fontaine, Spotter

“It was a great performance moving up the field from P36. Well done to both drivers. We’ve been able to put together strong performances before, but then falter somewhere down the line. This was great from start to finish.”

Daytona 24 Recap

Aculeus Racing finished in P18 in class for its first 24-hour race at Daytona.

The 2026 iRacing Daytona 24 marked Aculeus Racing’s first 24-hour race as an endurance team. It was a day, night, and day of good pace. Poor standards crept into the race from other drivers on track and sent the 33 Aculeus Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R to the pits several times.

Going into this race, consistency and survival were the focus points and on that metric, it was a major success. The drivers finished in the Top-20 in class despite the challenges throughout.

Drivers:

  • Jelle Wils

  • Jack Vincent-Spall

  • Sebastian Cerkiewnik

  • Rodney Roberts

  • Nathan Melnychuk

  • Aaron Fontaine

QUOTES

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“I’m so proud of the team for surviving its first 24-hour race and continually bouncing back from adversity to capture a top-20 finish in class. This is the exact start in 24-hour racing that I hoped to see and the drivers delivered in a big way. Now we’re fully focused on Bathurst.”

Sebring Race recap

Aculeus Racing recap of Six Hours of Sebring.

Aculeus Racing’s first race is in the books, as the team took on 45 other cars in the six-hour race at Sebring International Raceway.

Part of iRacing’s Global Endurance Tour, this marked the first competitive race session for Aculeus Racing.

The drivers in the car were:

  • Rodney Roberts

  • Aaron Fontaine

  • Jelle Wils

Rodney Roberts qualified the car 24th out of 46 with a lap time of 2:01.369. He also started the race and managed the car extremely well through first (and second) lap chaos, dropping to 32nd but sustaining no damage.

It wasn’t long before the trend reversed. By the end of the first stint, Aculeus Racing was up to 23rd. After the second pit cycle, it was 21st.

Aaron Fontaine took over and continued the consistency until disaster struck. Aaron took a position from a car at Turn 1 before incidental contact spun him out and put him in the wall. Seven minutes of required repairs ended any chance of a Top 15 finish.

The rest of Aaron’s stints were completed without major incident and the car was turned over to Jelle Wils for the final two stints.

Jelle made significant progress through the field, cutting his way back up to 28th and setting the team’s fastest lap (1:59.659) on lap 139.

QUOTES

Daniel Borgertpoepping, Team Owner

“The possibility for a great result was ripped away from us through no fault of our own, but that’s endurance racing. What really stands out is how the team ran this race. All the markers of a great performance were there. We controlled what we could control and our drivers executed extremely well. This is a great launchpad to push on into 2026.”

Rodney Roberts, Driver

“My qualifying lap was decent. Started mid-pack, but the opening laps proved to be a bit chaotic as usual. Once the dust settled after lap 2 and things got a little more organized, I settled in to a nice pace for the first two stints.”

Aaron Fontaine, Driver

“For a first race for the team, we did fairly well. There was one major incident, but we managed to make the best out of a bad situation and battled back to what was probably the best we were going to do given the circumstances.”

Jelle Wils, Driver

“The race started fine, we lost some positions but got them back by the end of the stint by staying consistent and out of trouble. After we had some trouble in the middle of the race, we lost some places but were able to gain a lot back at the end. Outside of Aaron's unfortunate incident we had a great first race as a team.”
